Sports & Games

Bunco

Bunco

Bunco
Looking for a night out, full of fun and laughter? Bunco is your answer. This simple dice game requires no skill or previous experience and is a great way of just hanging out and making friends. Played in groups of four, with players moving to different tables throughout the game, the object is to win or lose the most games or to roll the most BUNCO’s. This event is open to all members and we meet at a local pub in Gerrards Cross. The cost is £5 per evening.

Golf

Golf

Golf
This activity is open to all levels of golfers. We play on a local, public course which has fantastic practice facilities and multiple courses. We are very fortunate to have an amazing coach, PGA Director of Golf, Martin Heys. In 2014, Martin was awarded a Fellowship of the PGA for his services to the golf industry and is highly qualified to help us experience the fun and challenges of this great game! Lessons, led by Martin, are in the form of private CAWC golf clinics at Wexham Park Golf Centre.

Tennis

Tennis
If you are looking to get right back into the ‘swing’ of things, look no further! Join us on Monday mornings at 9.30am to chase away those Monday morning blues! You can play for an hour and a half, or even two – there are various levels so don’t worry if you haven’t played in years – dust off that racquet and join us! We play on hard courts at the Gerrards Cross Dukes Wood Tennis Club (see calendar for map info) and pay £12 per session. Remember to wear the appropriate footwear (tennis shoes with flat soles – running shoes can cause accidents) and bring a tennis racquet, we will have the tennis balls. Also, these are not covered tennis courts, so be prepared for inclement weather, we play regardless  – welcome to England!

Mind & Spirit

Book Bunch

Book Bunch

Book Bunch
Book Bunch meets once a month, generally on the Tuesday following the CAWC General Meeting. New members are welcome at any time during the year. We meet in a member’s home and enjoy some light refreshments and great discussions. We usually read 10 books per year from September to June, selected by the group including fiction, non-fiction, travel memories and biographies. We try to ensure the books are available in paperback. A Book Bunch member leads the discussion questions, which always makes for an interesting and lively debate. This is a very social group who love to see new faces. Each spring we have a ‘field trip’ to a place of literary interest. Recent trips have included Jane Austen’s home and The Globe.

WoW (Women of the Word)
A group of women from all denominations that meet on Monday mornings during the school year from 10am until noon and include Bible study, prayer and encouragement. We have a fun time sharing together over coffee, tea and snacks. We meet in the homes of our members. Approximate cost is £20 per year. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar; none of us are. We’re all learning together and having a great time along the journey.

Lunch Bunch

Moms and Tots
We are a group of moms with children five years and under who meet every Friday from 10.00 to 12.00 at one mom’s house for coffee and snacks. It is a great way to meet new friends and for our children to play in a safe environment.

Lunch Bunch
Lunch Bunch meets once a month on a Friday at noon. We love to try out new restaurants and pubs in the Chilterns but, we love our old favourites too. Great food and great discussions make this a very popular activity!

Movie Madness
Movie Madness meets once a month usually for a matinee but, we do see evening movies too. This is a great way to escape from the daily routine and treat yourself!

Hiking

Let's Cook

Let’s Go cook!

Hiking
Hiking is a wonderful way of exploring the stunning countryside that surrounds us and getting to know a few great pubs along the way! Hikes are organised every other Wednesday throughout the beautiful Chiltern Hills, and along the Thames Valley. All levels of ability are welcome and new members can join at any point in the year. Details, including level of difficulty, of each hike are circulated beforehand. Hikes usually start and finish at a pub where we can have a well-deserved lunch (optional). We meet at 9.45 for a 10am start and hikes last around two hours (4-6 miles). Dogs are welcome.

Let’s Go!
Let’s Go! allows members to share their ideas for fun days out with other club members. It could be visiting a local place of interest, a walking tour, cookery class, a visit to a market – anything at all. It’s a wonderful way of making friends while exploring our local area. Members make the suggestions, pick a date, time and a place to meet and off we go!

Arts and Crafts

Stitch and Chat
Please join our stitch and chat group for any portable handiwork. Some of us knit, others do cross stitching or some small sewing work. We try to meet every two weeks on a Tuesday afternoon at someone’s home. So please come along, have a nice cup of tea or coffee, a chat to hear all the latest news and of course do some handiwork.

Finders Keepers
Join us as we explore antique markets and fairs, auction houses and estate sales, in our search for English treasures in the Buckinghamshire area and beyond. Share your expertise and interests as we all learn about this interesting facet of life in England. All are welcome.
